Ford Motors APAC
3D Configurator & CRM Migration
Market Conditions & Context (2024 - Present)
Between 2024 and 2026, the Asia-Pacific (APAC) automotive market experienced a major shift. With direct-to-consumer (D2C) transactions accelerating under electric vehicle (EV) initiatives and logistics networks (Ford Pro), buyers increasingly demanded a seamless online-to-offline ordering experience. Transitioning from traditional dealership-only sales to unified omnichannel configurations became critical to capture high-intent leads.
The Legacy "Before" State
Prior to the migration, Ford APAC's digital architecture faced several major limitations:
- • Siloed CRM Systems: Customer data was fractured across legacy SAP modules, regional spreadsheets, and separate dealer management databases, causing fragmented consumer histories.
- • Dealer Gaps: Lead routing took days, with local dealerships having no visibility into what variations or options customers had configured online.
- • Static Visualizers: Vehicle configurators relied on pre-rendered 2D flat CAD images. They suffered from high drop-off rates due to slow load times and inability to display interior customization options in real time.
Strategic Execution & Architecture
I spearheaded the client-side solutions coordination to implement the following structural updates:
1. Salesforce Data Cloud Core
Consolidated the fragmented CRM database into the Salesforce Ecosystem (Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Data Cloud, and CRM Analytics). Legacy SAP ERP components were integrated via MuleSoft APIs to sync logistics and part availability in real time.
2. WebGL & WebGPU 3D Configuration Pipeline
Deployed web-based 3D configurators (utilizing Three.js and WebGL for browser-native rendering, with transition protocols for WebGPU to leverage modern GPU architectures and path-traced reflections). For high-end devices, we used Cloud Pixel Streaming powered by Unreal Engine. The visual pipeline integrated Gravity Sketch VR mockups and Qt WebGL streaming to preview vehicle cockpits with physically based rendering (PBR) in real time.
3. Real-time Dealer Integration
Wired the dealer networks directly to the Salesforce Data Cloud. The moment a user completed a configuration or requested a quote, the local dealer principal received a 360-degree lead profile detailing every feature customized by the buyer.
Direct Results & Impact
The structural transition successfully launched across key APAC markets, resolving operational gaps:
- • Consolidated customer database into a unified real-time profile.
- • Reduced dealer response times to digital configuration leads from 24 hours to under 15 minutes.
- • Decreased customer visualizer funnel drop-offs, driving a massive increase in average session durations.
